This is the story of Janet Evelyn Solomon.
Janet was a wonderful woman that was loved by all, is missed and will always be cherished. Our “Gigi”, as she loved to be called by her grandchildren, was an amazing wife, mom, daughter, sister, niece and friend to so many. Janet’s story starts on July 24, 1947, in Gary Indiana. The oldest of three children, born to John and Evelyn Irak. She has two brothers, John and Joe. Janet grew up in Gary, Indiana where she met and married her high school sweetheart, Art Solomon on August 23, 1969. Together they raised four children, Tom, Buzz, Mark and Jill. She was blessed in her lifetime with the opportunity to see all four of her children get married and have children of their own. Janet was renowned for her cooking, baking and entertainment skills. She loved to sew and was always working on a project for someone.
Janet was the shining light in the family and always put her family first. Janet passed away on September 11, 2018, but only after a courageous 9 year battle with lymphoma. Loved ones that cleared the path for Janet are her father John Irak, and mother Evelyn Irak. Loved ones that will miss Janet until they meet again are her husband Art Solomon; her son and daughter in law Tom and Tammy Solomon; her son and daughter in law Michael (Buzz) and Karen Solomon; her son and daughter in law Mark and Brennan Solomon; her daughter and son in law Jill and Brian Flynn; her grandchildren Tyler Solomon, Emily Solomon, Logan Solomon, Drew Solomon, Norah Solomon, Grier Flynn, Sadie Solomon, Reece Flynn, and Declan Flynn; her brother John Irak and his wife Martha; her brother Joe Irak and his wife Kristi. She also leaves behind many wonderful friends and other family members.
Thank you for donating to the Leukemia & Lymphoma society in Janet’s honor. We hope that with time and research we will be able to come up with treatment that will diminish the disease and prevent the loss of more individuals in the battle.
