About The Shield Institute

Founded nearly 100 years ago, The Shield Institute is dedicated to improving the lives of children, adolescents, and adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities.

By working with families and communities, we help New Yorkers with i/dd to lead full, meaningful lives that include a chance to work and contribute. Everyone has valuable talents and abilities; and everyone matters. We seek to transform the way communities and societies understand, relate to, and support citizens with developmental disabilities. By honoring diversity in values, heritages, abilities, and interests, we help to ensure that people with disabilities enjoy the same rights and opportunities as everyone else.

Help us close the ever-increasing gap between our revenues and the needs of our children and adults. Each donation means the difference between providing too few services to too few people—and truly meeting the growing needs of our community.

On behalf of the hundreds of New Yorkers we serve, thank you for your support today!
