The Replacement Year!
No, we can’t replace the year. Yes, the Falmouth Road Race has been replaced with a virtual setting. Oh and lastly, Jen is replacing Danielle running alongside Kerry! Even with all the changes, one thing still remains: Recovery Without Walls (RWW) needs our help! A non-profit organization with only volunteer employees, relies solely on contributions to assist women following substance treatment.
COVID-19 has impacted many of us. Some of us are fortunate to still have our jobs and thus pay. For some of these women, they have lost their jobs. This financial insecurity can be costly in more ways than one. During the pandemic RWW has returned to its roots as a crisis organization, working tirelessly to provide scholarships and support for basic needs such as housing and groceries. RWW ensures stability and minimizes the financial barriers to remaining in treatment when they would have otherwise been displaced by COVID-19 and its financial strain. ......But who provides stability to RWW in this time of need? We can! An organization near and dear to our hearts, they need our support more than ever.
... Jen here! When I met Kerry almost 12 years ago, I was a 21 year old who went to the bar every weekend, celebrated Thirsty Thursday’s, and “pregamed.” The night I met Kerry, she headed off to a meeting. Since then I've attended my first meeting alongside her, traveled to the Plymouth House to visit, ventured up to Portland to surprise her for her bday, but never truly understood the ups and downs of her road to recovery. Now in a place where she can join me to drink her tea at my favorite Portland brewery, I’d like to join her for an event that means so much to her (and RWW)!
... Kerry here! As Nancy Rogers so eloquently said to her son Fred “Look for the helpers, you will always find the people who are helping”. This is especially true in our current climate. RWW and Billy D are the helpers I aspire to be. From the outset of COVID-19 Bill has been in lockstep with those in recovery who have some real financial limitations due to the pandemic. RWW continues to provide fierce and unwavering support to me, my community and loved ones. We are fearful as an organization that this will be our hardest year to raise money, but here’s to making it our best!
Thank you for taking the time to read our stories. Please donate, share, cheer us on virtually- anything helps! Thank you thank you thank you! Kerry and Jen
