Introducing Cumberland Youth CRED
For the past 50 years, the Opportunity Alliance (TOA) has proudly served as the Cumberland County Community Action Agency. TOA’s statewide youth engagement program, the Maine Youth Action Network (MYAN), supports the development of youth leaders and promotes best practices in the field in partnership with communities across Maine. In our newest initiative, TOA & MYAN aim to expressly partner with Cumberland County youth to enhance existing local work. Cumberland Youth CRED (Community Resilience & Engaging Development) promotes sustained support for youth leadership programming, youth voice on issues impacting local communities, and technical assistance for adult partners in the county. Cumberland Youth CRED effectively networks youth programs and emerging leaders to ensure all young people can access the resources needed to improve their communities.
Working throughout Cumberland County
Cumberland County offers a geographic snapshot of Maine; with the big city, the coastal towns, lakes region, rural farms, and everything in between, Cumberland resembles a cross-section of the state. Beyond the beautiful landscapes, Cumberland consists of diverse community demographics that make it the prime place to lead youth engagement best practices in our state. Great work is already underway, and Cumberland Youth CRED uniquely offers these existing programs access to resources and a network of sustained, supportive partnership.
Right now, young people are working on projects in the following areas:
Civil rights and social justice; mental health awareness and stigma reduction; climate justice; school bullying prevention; healthy school climate; substance use prevention
Help Us Support Young People in Southern Maine!
All over the country and the world, young leaders are speaking out for change on issues impacting their communities and our planet. They cannot do it alone. TOA invites you to join them – to join us – in partnering with Cumberland County’s next generation of leaders, volunteers, parents, employers, and community members.
