The Notre Dame Club of Boston annually sponsors a "new students" Send Off event locally before the incoming students return to campus. At this event, we have the opportunity to meet new students and they meet each other before heading out to ND. For the past several years we have included a "community service" activity as an introduction to ND's service commitments, and and to stress how important community is to each of us.
Due to the restrictions this year for "gathering in person" both the student send-off and the community service event will be conducted virtually.
So we encourage both new ND students, current students, parents of students, and ND alum to participate in ND Boston Club's Campaign for "SOX for Socks" to assist the Boston Healthcare for the Homeless Program ( BHCHP) founded by Dr. James O'Connell, ND'70.
In donating to our team effort you will be buying much needed socks for the homeless in Boston during COVID-19 pandemic. Access to shoes and socks is often limited for the homeless men and women living in shelters and on the streets.
Every day, BHCHP's nurses and physicians treat a range of foot ailments - from trench foot to skin infections, from frostbite to nail diseases. The best way to prevent such conditions is to keep feet clean and dry - very difficult if you spend your days outside.
