After much consideration as to how we can best serve Southern IL, we have recognized a service need currently absent in our area, a Family Advocacy Center.
Family Advocacy Centers aid people in their communities in a number of ways. We will be offering case management, client advocacy, parenting classes, life skills coaching, various classes and workshops, as well as genuine guidance to families and children in need. There is a computer lab for those without computer or internet access and resources for those experiencing homelessness or without working water or plumbing. Additionally, we will be providing food, clothing, hygiene items, household wares, school supplies, family fun nights, and connection to community service providers. With linkage to Erin's Night's Shield Foundation, families can also apply for financial assistance for crisis situations. All of this at no cost to participants.
The Night’s Shield Family Advocacy Center is also a resource for youth aging out of DCFS care or being discharged from care. We know many of them still need help transitioning to life on their own and we are here for them. We will continue providing visiting spaces for DCFS and POS agencies, as well as space for Child and Family Team Meetings.
The Night's Shield Family Advocacy Center is opening July 13th at 8:30am. We will be hosting an open house July 9th from 10am - 2pm. Please come by, meet us, and see our facilities. We would love to talk to you about what we can do to help our communities. We would also appreciate any assistance getting more funding to expand services even further. At this time we are operating without any assistance from government agencies. From the get go, Night's Shield has always been a grassroots organization, relying on support from our community to give back to our neighbors in need. Now more than ever, Southern IL needs this service and anything you can do would be a huge help.
All money raised from this fundraiser will go directly to serving the families and children of Southern Illinois.
