Welcome to my fundraising page! I'm so excited to share that this year I will be running the Boston Marathon as a member of Team NECC!
For anyone who is not familiar with the New England Center for Children (NECC), it is a school that specializes in teaching individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder and related disabilities using Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), but NECC is so much more than that. NECC doesn't just teach our students, it improves lives around the world with research and technology that extends far beyond our schools.
NECC has a special place in my heart and has very much shaped the person that I am today. I started my career with NECC in 2015 as a teacher on a residential team working with older boys. This position taught me more than I could summarize on this page because it was my first real experience working with the depths of autism. If I had to boil it down I would say it taught me empathy for my students and their families, and that even the smallest gains can improve a student's quality of life. In 2016, I continued my career with NECC at our school in Abu Dhabi working as a teacher in a pre-school classroom. This room could not have been more different than my team of older boys in Southborough, but seeing ABA intervention at the beginning and the difference that intervention makes at younger ages made me so proud. I'm proud of the work that NECC does in the classroom as well as at conferences where NECC shares the research that is continuously being conducted to improve the lives of individuals all over the world. In 2018, I returned to Boston to work as a lead teacher in one of NECC's partner classrooms and fast forward another year I am back working at NECC in Southborough as an Education Coordinator in our intensive instruction program.
From the beginning of my career I've been amazed and excited about the work that NECC does, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to represent and support just that. Please consider donating to this cause, no amount is too small!
For more information on where your donation would go please continue reading below!
Today, the CDC estimates the current rate of autism at 1 in 59 children. The yearly cost to the United States is a staggering $236 billion a year. But it doesn’t have to be. Children who are diagnosed early and receive intensive behavioral instruction, and children who receive top services, have the best outcomes.
That’s where we help. We’re more than a school, we’re an autism research institute helping children with autism live more independent lives. We’re unique because of our three-pronged approach to intervention: education, research, and technology. And our model is scalable to programs around the world.
All donations to NECC fund research on early intensive behavioral instruction, ensure students have the best equipment to meet individual learning needs, provide vocational training, support graduate training opportunities for teachers, promote our ACE® Software System, and allow us to share educational research findings with clinicians and teachers around the world.
By supporting NECC, YOU are leading the way in autism education and research.
