Last year, I hung up my cleats and joined the Board of Directors! Over the past 5 years, ALL thanks to my donors, I have raised $26,000 for BvB Dallas ---- thank you SO much! In my 6th year, I'm setting out to raise another $5,000 for our wonderful beneficiaries, who are all doing amazing work for Alzheimer's here in North Texas that affects the ENTIRE world!
UNT Health Science Center:
BvB is excited to announce a new beneficiary in UNT Health Science Center in Fort Worth. Our funds will support research investigating hyperbaric oxygen therapy as a potential treatment for Alzheimer’s disease. This research study will examine the hypothesis that hyperbaric oxygen therapy reverses brain deficits associated with Alzheimer’s disease by reducing neuroinflammation, boosting antioxidant defenses, and improving synaptic health.
Center for BrainHealth:
The Center for BrainHealth’s Discovery Group is a strength-based program aiming to optimize the abilities of individuals with early stage Alzheimer’s disease. BvB’s contribution will also support additional programming that the Center for BrainHealth offers: targeted education for caregivers, community workshops, and professional seminars that are delivered throughout the community for a broader impact.
BvB will continue our partnership with UT Southwestern, funding the Clinical Neuropsychology Alzheimer’s Fellowship, an intensive two-year program which provides an opportunity to rapidly develop expertise in the differential diagnosis and treatment of dementia. We are also supporting a groundbreaking new research study to diagnose and treat Alzheimer’s disease by using focused ultrasound. This study could potentially be used to deliver therapeutic agents directly to the brain by temporarily opening the blood-brain barrier.
The Senior Source:
For a second year, BvB will support two programs at The Senior Source. Through the Senior Companion Program, specially trained volunteers are placed in the homes of older adults to provide personal assistance as well as respite care for the family caregiver. The Caregiver Support Program provides assistance through professional expertise and supportive counseling to help caregivers through the challenges they face in caring for aging loved ones. This program pays particular attention to issues of caregiver stress and burnout. Additionally, the Caregiver Support Program delivers education by hosting seminars in Dallas and Collin counties.
Game day is Saturday, August 10, 2019!!! Head to bvbdallas.org to learn more and THANK YOU for your donation!
