The National Museum of African American Music's (NMAAM) mission is to educate the world, preserve the legacy, and celebrate the central role African Americans have played on creating the American Soundtrack. Around the world, museums and destinations exist that feature specific artists, genres, labels, or components of African American music; however, NMAAM will be the first and only destination of its kind to celebrate the full richness of the influence that African Americans have had on more than 50 genres and styles of music. Opening in early 2020 NMAAM will be located in the heart of downtown Nashville on 5th Ave and Broadway.
NMAAM offers a variety of musical programs that illuminate the rich legacy African Americans have in creating the American soundtrack. Whether you grew up on the musical stylings of B.B. King or seeing Beyoncé go from Destiny's Child to a solo powerhouse, our program offerings have a little something for everyone. We need your help to continue expanding our reach with our educational and community outreach programs.
