Hi and welcome to Heather's Boston Marathon 2020 fundraising page! Yes, you read that right...I'm running the marathon and raising $10,000 for the McCourt Foundation.
How did this happen? How does a middle-aged mother of three decide to take on this challenge? I mean I'm a runner not a Runner. Well, after years of trotting down the streets of Freeport, Maine, I started kicking around the idea of a marathon. I've run some 5k's (McCourt race included), hit out the LLBean 10k a handful of times and even pushed myself through a hilly half marathon a few years ago. But 26.2 miles always seemed so overwhelming , yet it nagged at me. I mentioned this to my youngest son. He said "Mom, if you're going to run a marathon why not run one with purpose? Why not run the most historic marathon in the world for a charity that has meant the world to you for years?" Boy, did we raise a smart kid!
My husband, Andrew and I have been involved with the McCourt Foundation since its inception in 1992. The family are dear friends of ours and we have witnessed the foundation transform from a family charity raising money for MS and Alzheimer's to a major contributor to research of neurological disorders. It has been an honor to support the foundation. Now it is a privilege to run and raise for them.
My family has been affected by neurological disorders; early onset of tremors and epilepsy. I know many of you have too. Sadly, it is hard to escape these disorders.
It is for all of you that I run.
Please consider donationg to support me and the McCourt Foundation.
Thank you and read on for more info on this amazing charity!
