Jeffrey Farrell tragically lost his life on January 18th, 2019 at the age of 30 when a tractor trailer drove off an embankment and struck him while he was working in a storm drain. Jeff affected and touched many lives; therefore, his family wanted to find a way to celebrate his life and have a positive impact on the lives of others.
Jeff's mother Carol was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma in 1996. After treatment, she has been in remission for over 20 years. Jeff was passionate about many things including hockey and supporting cancer research through the Mario Lemieux Foundation. Jeff was a huge fan of Mario Lemieux and the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Mario Lemieux foundation supports research for Lymphomas and Leukemia and that is why we knew it was the perfect foundation to choose for our benefit hockey game. This event is to honor Jeff's life while supporting a great cause that he was passionate about.
Jeff ‘s passion for hockey drove him to participate in numerous adult recreational hockey leagues. Two of his teams, the Martians and the Ice Pyrates, will compete on the ice on the day of the event in Jeff’s memory.
During the event, there will be lots of fun family activities such as face painting, rink-side games, auctions, raffles, 50/50, and much more!
