September 9, 2012 was the beginning of my journey in recovery. Over 6 years later, I am more and more amazed by how beautiful this journey has been, and insanely grateful for the impact it has had on my life and my family. I am one of the VERY LUCKY 24 million people in Recovery! The reality is, this is a disease with two very big problems, that no other disease currently shares: 1. ACCESS TO TREATMENT. Getting treatment can be unbelievably difficult. For most people, their journey begins with a stay in a detox and /or rehabilitation program. "Finding a bed" can be a frustrating and often impossible chore. So they stay sick. Sometimes they die. I know, CRAZY.
2. STIGMA. People who are sick don't get the help they so need because they are ASHAMED. That must change. We as a society must change. We have an OBLIGATION to help our family/friends/community feel supported and loved, as they attempt a often difficult and life-long journey. So, I teamed up with The Herren Project. A charity aimed at shattering both of the problems above. Helping people get well, and shattering the stigma surrounding addiction. I can't thank you enough for reading this, supporting me, and all of us trying to get and stay well. ❤️❤️❤️ THE HERREN PROJECT wrote - Thank you for supporting The Herren Project as we provide assistance in taking the first steps toward recovery, and a life of sobriety, through treatment navigation, educational programs, mentoring resources and support groups. We seek to increase b awareness on the signs of addiction and bring hope for a better tomorrow. Step by step, The Herren Project team is truly making a difference, one person, one family, one community at a time! For additional information please visit www.theherrenproject.org
