As many of you know Tyler and I recently brought Wyatt home from his 100 day NICU stay at Levine Children's hospital. During this time we received support from our amazing family and friends, as well as from organizations geared towards helping families navigate the NICU world. Now that we are on the other side of things, although still coping and managing all that comes with the preemie parent life, we want to help give back. Please join us in raising funds for the 5th Annual Premature Oktoberfest event, benefitting local NICU families. They are specifically working to provide counseling to families of babies staying in the NICU. As a mental health professional I knew how important it would be to process my experience with someone who specializes in maternal mental health. I started seeing a counselor while Wyatt was still in the hospital. It has been a large part of what has helped me cope with the unexpected (and somewhat traumatic) way that Wyatt entered the world. Therapy was a safe place to cry during the setbacks & celebrate the milestones that came along with those 100 days. Pierce's Project also provides resources to families early on in the NICU journey. I was given a book with stories of happy healthy children who started out in the NICU, just like Wyatt, while I was still in the hospital myself. They also hosted family nights where we were able to meet, and eat some chickfila, with other NICU parents. These are just a few examples of ways that this organization is helping NICU families. Please join us in this cause that is near to our hearts!
