At Inner City Education, hockey serves as a catalyst for our student athletes. Not only does this group of exceptional student-athletes build their hockey skills, we support their social-emotional learning and academic gains.
Our program provides academic scholarships to student athletes from historically marginalized communities. These students play hockey in our program or in other programs in the Chicagoland area. In addition to the academic scholarship, our student athletes are paired with a program mentor. Mentors and Mentees have biweekly phone calls and all of our Mentors and Mentees come together once a quarter for a team building outing- many trips are educational in nature.
Inner City Education also facilitates a hockey program every hockey season. We currently operate at three hockey rinks and bring our student athletes to the ice with an additional hour of mandatory tutoring. Of course, this winter we will not be on the ice due to the global pandemic, however our student athletes will continue with their academics and the scholarships our program has been able to provide. Scholarship recipients will also continue to receive mentoring and the support that provides.
As a non-profit, we are only able to provide these opportunities to our student athletes because of donors like you. For my birthday this year, I appreciate your kindness as we provide the gift of education to our student-athletes.
