On December 8th, 2014 Ken and Arabelle Gemmell lost more than most families could endure. Not only did their family home burn to the ground but they lost 3 family members. Marie, a wife and mother, was attempting to save her two sons until her last moments. Cole was an energetic 3 year old. Devin was a 7 week old newborn that had managed to meet many members of his family in just a few short weeks.
A devastating plane crash into their front yard led to the house fire in the Gaithersburg, MD area just outside of Washington, D.C. Nothing would be the same going forward. Luckily, the community rallied around the family’s story and the outreach of support was immense. Between clothing and household goods the two remaining family members were able to try to get their lives back to normal.
As time went by one thing became clear to Ken and Arabelle, that there was so much help for them in excess of what they needed. So both Ken and Arabelle learned to pay it forward and find ways to keep Marie, Cole, and Devin’s memory alive while benefitting others. Now, Where Angels Play Foundation has come into their lives whose mission has done exactly that for so many others. Between volunteering their time or celebrating a 9th birthday requesting donations go to a local food bank, they have both tried to do as much as they can for those around them.
Their next endeavor is going to be the loftiest goal they have yet pursued. Through some coincidental connections they had been put in touch with Where Angels Play Foundation. Over the course of the past year they have been working together to not only find a local playground location to honor their 3 family members, but to also provide an amazing place for children to play. They are raising money to bring this vision to fruition and have a playground built in Gaithersburg, MD in the summer of 2019. Please donate to help support this cause.
