"The Summer of 2018 will see, writ-large, the promotion of the public story on the birth and growth of the global nuclear industry. Its epicenter is the Land of Enchantment. Sparsely peopled with ancients, settlers and now the world, it’s geologic solitude has more to say than can be spoken. A land that is the sky. From vast isolation, hidden in plain sight, emanates a global cloud of unintended consequences that darken all horizons - “like a dawn without a day”. Its truth has become our truth, from terrifying beauty to terrifying world.
Our project, Land of Enchantment: Atomic Summer, seeks to explore a story beyond the veneer of the crafted. Enchantment shares its meaning with incantation. Both portend spells, wizardry, magic, irresistible charm and repetitious wordiness used to conceal deeper meaning. Jobs, jobs, jobs, the blurring mantra, “pray for more”.
Out-of-step with the expected, we will enter the public dialog in image and word - the image to touch, the word to give voice. Nuclear is the subject and like a catechism not to be fundamentally questioned. Its voice, the oracle, the new divine to be, proclaims the new terra firma with signs and wonders, glasses for the blind that we may see. We see the world through language. “The limits of our language are the limits of our world.” Begin to change the language, the story, is to begin to change your world.
Should you wish to join us, to explore beyond the grammar of mythology, to add a contrarian voice to the story, know that this becomes more vital with your support. Of the five elements (earth, air, water, fire, money) four are birthrights. It is the fifth we seek. "- Godfrey Reggio, The Friends of Tony Price
