We are pleased to announce that the Ritchie C. Miller, III Memorial Endowed Scholarship has been officially established at the Mississippi State University Foundation! Thank you to everyone for their very generous contributions that help realize the goal of cementing Ritchie’s legacy.
The Ritchie C. Miller, III Memorial Endowed Scholarship was established to aid students who are members and/or allies of the LGBTQ+ community who are active in movements of social justice. This is the first scholarship of its kind in the state of Mississippi.
Candidates for the Ritchie C. Miller, III Memorial Endowed Scholarship must meet the following criteria:
1. Be a full-time undergraduate student at Mississippi State University
who has completed at least 59 hours of coursework.
2. Must have demonstrated financial need.
3. Must be a Mississippi resident.
4. Complete an essay detailing how and why the applicant works for the
advancement of LGBTQ+ people in Mississippi.
5. Submit a recommendation letter from a community member knowledgeable
of the applicant's contributions to supporting and advancing the LGBTQ+ community in Mississippi.
The University Scholarship Committee administers the scholarship program at Mississippi State University. Any scholarships will be awarded on a year to year basis. Students who are recipients one year are eligible for consideration in any other year; however, they must again comply with the selection criteria.
The first scholarship was awarded in 2019 and all contributions to the endowment now will help grow the initial and subsequent scholarship amounts. All contributions pass through to the MSU Foundation, Inc. and are tax-deductible.
