Why am I running?
I'm thrilled to be given the opportunity to run the 2020 Boston Marathon for an amazing organization: The Ellie Fund. Growing up along the marathon route, I was lucky enough to celebrate the dedicated energy of thousands of runners breezing past my neighborhood each year.
Entering the race has been a longtime dream of mine, and I can't think of a better cause to return home for than running my very first marathon in support of breast cancer patients in Massachusetts.
Why I'm running for The Ellie Fund
Breast cancer diagnoses come without a warning or game plan, and The Ellie Fund's support and services help patients manage both their treatment and day-to-day obligations. After spending several years learning about and volunteering with breast cancer advocacy groups, I chose to run for The Ellie Fund because their mission places care at its core by prioritizing quality of life.
Thank you for joining me in my fundraising journey!
Supporting Patients. Funding Care. Providing Hope.
"Chemotherapy wreaks havoc on your body but that in no way compared to the sense of helplessness I felt when I couldn’t feed my daughter. I remember the day my grant from the Ellie Fund arrived. When I went to the mailbox, I not only received grocery store gift cards, but I also received the most important gift of all - hope." - Nicole
The Ellie Fund is proud to once again be a part of the John Hancock Marathon Non-Profit Program. Your generous donation in support of our runners will benefit our Healing Together Patient and Family Care Program and Metastatic Breast Cancer Support Program, providing essential support services to breast cancer patients and their families including:
- Nutritional and grocery assistance
- Transportation to medical appointments
- Childcare reimbursement
- Light housekeeping
- Prepared/delivered meals
- Integrative therapies
The Boston Marathon was the catalyst to the Ellie Fund’s fundraising efforts with co-founders Jeff and Eliot Popkin running in 1989, 1994 and 1996. We are honored to once again use this historic event as an important platform to help change the lives of the women, men and children that line the marathon route each year.
