The deal: I cook dinner for you, you donate any amount you can to the ECDC- African Community Center of Denver (ACC) to assist refugees impacted by Coronavirus.
The motivation: I lost my job in mid-March because of Coronavirus, yet I recognize that there are many people who are in far more vulnerable positions than I am. Many of the refugees that the ACC works with would fall into this category. It is common for refugees to have low income jobs (which they may have lost because of COVID-19), be in the process of adjusting to life in Denver, still learning English, and they may be unfamiliar with the medical and social support systems in the States. I spent nearly three years working with refugees, and it was my time in the kitchen with many of my refugee friends where I discovered a love for cooking, so cooking seems like a fitting way to try and raise money on behalf of refugees.
The money: All donations will go the ECDC-African Community Center of Denver (ACC). The ACC exists "to help refugee and immigants rebuild safe, sustainable lives in Denver." Check them out here https://www.acc-den.org/.
