I was supposed to run the Boston Marathon on April 20th in memory of my cousin Sophia and in support of The Children’s Room (TCR) (http://childrensroom.org/ ). Instead of running the event as planned, I will be doing a virtual marathon on September 12th.
I am running because I believe in TCR’s mission: that no child, teen, or family has to grieve alone.
During my freshman year of high school, my one-year old cousin died of Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood (http://www.sudc.org/). Sophia and her older sister, Isabelle, are part of my close-knit family and we all were devastated by this loss. Throughout this difficult time, TCR provided comfort and understanding for Isabelle and invaluable resources and support for Isabelle’s family. At TCR, Isabelle found solace with other children who could truly understand what it meant to lose a sibling. She could talk about her little sister and be heard, supported and accepted.
I first ran the Boston Marathon for TCR in 2011. Since then, Isabelle has graduated from high school and is now a sophomore in college. I have continued to love running and have been swept up in the excitement of the Boston Marathon every year. I consider myself lucky to do what I love to support an organization that does such important work. I am also immensely thankful to all those that choose to donate to this page on behalf of TCR. One of the organization’s greatest challenges is helping ALL families in need, regardless of their ability to contribute financially to the program. Your contribution will help TCR meet and overcome this challenge.
