The Children’s Center is a self-supporting program, open 7:30 to 4:30 Monday-Friday year round, is a part of Harwich Ecumenical Council for the Homeless (HECH). HECH was founded in 1990 with the mission to provide affordable housing to families here on Cape Cod. After a few years, the members of HECH found that they were able to provide affordable housing, but many families could not work because they had young children at home that needed to be cared for. This made it so many HECH families were unable to become self-supporting which was one of the goals of their mission. The solution to this problem was to provide care for these young children. The Children’s Center began at The First Congregational Church in Harwich Center in 1993. The Church provided space for a small group of children and a few volunteers while the parents went to work. The Children’s Center has been providing high quality child care and education for Cape Cod families for over 27 years.
