Want to join Hood River Area Trail Stewards (HRATS) in expanding multi-use trails within our gorgeous and scenic Hood River Area? HRATS mission is to create, enhance, and preserve positive trail experiences for trail users in the Hood River area, with a focus on mountain biking. HRATS is currently raising money to directly benefit trail work in the Buck Creek Trail System.
The Buck Creek Trail System Loop, which includes Nestor Peak, is an existing 26 mile loop entirely on Washington Department of Natural Resources (DNR) land. It was built in the 1980s and has been mostly neglected except for the Nestor Peak (4.7 miles) portion of the loop. HRATS has partnered with Columbia Area Mountain Bike Association (CAMBA) to reconstruct the loop by rebuilding lost sections and reshaping the excessively steep sections of the trail which limit accessibility to most riders. We have an opportunity to create an epic loop, with spectacular mountain views and passes through fantastic old growth forests, that will offer loop, out-and-back and shuttle opportunities for all types and styles of riders!
Volunteers and a paid machine operator have already completed reconstruction of a 'lost' piece of Nestor Peak Trail (the -1 mile section just above Trailhead 1) to get trail users off the gravel road and on to single track.
Now HRATS and CAMBA need your help to complete the loop. Every dollar of your donation will go directly to running the trail excavator and building fun, purpose-built singletrack. As soon as we have the funds to complete the next section of trail, we will get to work building! Your donation will provide access to a multitude of trails for all users for many years to come!
HRATS will be posting regular trail and fundraising updates, photos, and videos on HRATS social media (Instagram and Facebook).
