Our Current Program during the COVID-19 Crisis: There are tens of thousands of children in North Texas that live under the poverty line. One of our greatest hopes in breaking the poverty chain is through proper education. During this current crisis, many elementary students will be out-of-school for over 5 months!! As it is, many students are challenged to read properly and learn basic math skills. With a five-month hiatus, it will be as if they started all over again come next September! The Artist Outreach (TAO) performs programs from Pre-K students through second grade teaching language fluency and basic math concepts (counting, skip counting, addition, subtraction).
Our Innovative Solution: The Artist Outreach serves as a supplemental education, teaching kids elementary-based concepts through the use of music and the arts. During this extended summer hiatus, we will teach our program at a critical time period for these youngsters to learn language and math in a fun, playful and highly innovative way. Your contributions will allow us to work with our many partners including Title I schools in Dallas ISD, Mesquite ISD, Fort Worth ISD, as well as community centers and shelter partners such as Rainbow Days and Genesis. The program will prepare our youngest of minds as they re-enter the school format in late August. We will then be able to extend our efforts into the new school for continuity.
TAO’s Impact: “Rhythmic Vocabulary” Program (teaching language through rhythm) - During the 2015 - 2016 school year, TCU’s Starpoint School and The Artist Outreach collaborated on a research project that sought to demonstrate the effectiveness on fluency and reading with the use of our program, Rhythmic Vocabulary: 93% of lower elementary demonstrated a huge improvement with their speed and articulation. BETTER SPEAKERS BECOME BETTER READERS!!
Your Participation: For every $2,000 raised, we can provide arts-integrated academic classes to a school or community center for the summer hiatus. The interaction between artists and children is incredible to watch! The drums and playful techniques lift up the child’s attitude and they become focused on the instruction that is being presented. Help us help the youngest of children become more proficient in language and math skills during this long break from in-school classes!
