The Antrim Playhouse has been a staple of Rockland County and the surrounding communities for over 100 years. As a non-profit organization, our mission has always been to bring people together through the power of theater. Each year we produce a season of full-scale productions of both plays and musicals, as well as smaller-scale productions that focus on the works of local artists. Antrim is committed to telling stories that reflect our diverse community, as well as being a place that provides a creative outlet - not just for performers - but for designers and those who wish to be involved in any aspect of theater. Founded in 1936 by a small group of college students home for the summer, they held rehearsals in basements and parlors and performances were given in school auditoriums. In the 1940’s, launching a new phase, the Players rented the Playhouse and it has been their home ever since. Our theater is completely run by dedicated volunteers who are serious about the arts. Through the years, Antrim has been the starting rung for many talented people who have gone on to professional theater, television and big screen success. Our stage has been graced by Helen Hayes, Fred Gwynne, Henny Youngman, Burl Ives, Tyne Daly, Hugh McPhillips, Christine Andreas, Rene Auberjonais, Milton Berle and many others. Since then it has undergone many changes and renovations in order to continue it’s traditions and provide the type of entertainment to its visitors that only the theatre can. We’ve just entered an entirely new and unpredictable decade, and we at the Antrim Playhouse are working tirelessly to continue serving our community through the performing arts. As you can imagine, a building with as rich a history as ours is in need of a few upgrades and renovations in order to keep safely moving forward. Given the challenges we have all been faced with, our doors still remain closed making it that much harder. With your much needed help we will be able to roll out new and safer ways to hold events that will continue bringing the community together. In order to help raise funds to keep the doors of Antrim Playhouse open we would be extremely grateful for any donation to help support and keep us going.
