Texas Giving is a fundraising initiative led by a group of students from the University of Texas at Austin. 2020 has been a year with many unexpected turns and we are so thankful to be in a stable position during these unprecedented times. Due to COVID-19 affecting our communities at such a large scale, several vulnerable groups such as the elderly, homeless, and the disabled are starting to be overlooked . Our goal is to choose a current and prevalent issue in Texas and find a non-profit organization that is committed to serving as a support system for such communities.
From October 2020 to May 2021, we will be fundraising for CASA. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of Travis County believes every child who's been abused or neglected deserves to have a dedicated advocate speaking up for their best interest in court, at school and in our community. To accomplish this, CASA educates and empowers diverse community volunteers who ensure each child's needs remain a priority in an overburdened child welfare system. When the state steps in to protect a child's safety because the people responsible for protecting them have not, a judge appoints a trained volunteer advocate to make independent and informed recommendations and help the judge decide what's best for the child.
We have set a goal to raise $5000 by the end of May for CASA. We also have a venmo (@Texasgiving), if that is more feasible. There is no donation too small, any amount helps. The more we raise, the more we can give back to those who need it the most!
The more support the better as always, so please share this with your friends and don’t hesitate to DM us on instagram and facebook if you have any questions or if you wanna get more involved!
