Texas Giving is a fundraising initiative led by a group of students from the University of Texas at Austin. 2020 has been a year with many unexpected turns and we are so thankful to be in a stable position during these unprecedented times. Due to COVID-19 affecting our communities at such a large scale, several vulnerable groups such as the elderly, homeless, and the disabled are starting to be overlooked. Our goal is to choose a current and prevalent issue in Texas and find a non-profit organization that is committed to serving as a support system for such communities.
For over 30 years, Austin Street Center is the largest low barrier shelter in Dallas that serves men, ages 45 and older, and women, ages 18 and older. Each person who finds shelter with Austin Street Center is provided a safe place to sleep, showers, clothing, and meals.
We have set a goal to raise $5000 by the end of August for Austin Street Center. We also have a venmo (@Texasgiving), if that is more feasible. There is no donation too small, any amount helps. The more we raise, the more we can give back to those who need it the most! All proceeds will go towards providing 3 daily meals, hygiene items, and laundry supplies.
The more support the better as always, so please share this with your friends and don’t hesitate to DM us on instagram and facebook if you have any questions or if you wanna get more involved!
More information about Austin Street Center can be found on their website.
