About our Campaign
The Texas Civil War Living History Institute is teaming up with Sheep Dog Impact Assistance to help Veterans and First Responders "Get off the Couch" by providing a unique and exciting Outdoor Adventure where our heroes of today can walk in the footsteps of the veterans of the past.
Sheep Dog Impact Assistance is in need of a new Outdoor Adventure that would be a good match for their Veterans and First Responders, and the Institute is in need of experienced and skilled troops to fill our ranks. This is even more important during a time when societal issues are in the forefront of our minds and tensions rise.
The Institute has the ability to educate the public on the background of these issues, by connecting them with the average American caught in the bloodshed and destruction the Civil War. By making our Veterans and First Responders a part of telling this story, their experiences make for a more real, authentic, and personal narrative. It is our hope by telling this story of conflict and sacrifice in America in crisis, that we inspire and embolden our citizens to make America a wonderful place for everyone now and into the future.
In addition, by teaming up with Sheep Dog's Mission, we hope to combat Veteran and First Responder depression and suicide through lack of support and engagement. The US Department of Veterans Affairs states that more than 6,000 Veterans die by suicide each year, and other statistics show that twice as many First Responders die by suicide than in the line of duty. COVID-19 has caused a sharp increase in these numbers as First Responders and Veterans deal with the aftereffects of a pandemic. We hope to give them an opportunity to enjoy themselves, blow off some steam, learn a little, and provide another meaningful service to the community.
How Can I Help?
What is needed to put on a unique and immersive living history experience that involves our nation's finest and educates the public on our most important era of history? The Texas Civil War Living History Institute has the know-how, Sheep Dog Impact Assistance has the manpower, but what we lack is the equipment!
A full set of Civil War living history gear outfits one person with clothing, equipment, and tents. A full set costs approximately $2,000. Sheep Dog Impact Assistance believes it could have up to 100 participants per event. Therefore, for $200,000, the Institute can host 100 Sheep Dog IA participants per event, with multiple events possible every year!
All of this equipment will last for many years, so each set can potentially benefit numerous participants, be they individuals or part of a partner organization like Sheep Dog IA. Additionally, each participant outfitted contributes to giving countless hundreds of people an opportunity to come face to face with our most important era of history.
Whether you can contribute $5, $20, or $2,000, every little bit can go a long way. The Texas Civil War Living History Institute is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit, and all donations are tax-deductible.
