This year, I'm the board chair for the Texas 4000 for Cancer so I've made a stretch goal of raising $4000 for the 4000+ miles the student leaders each intend to ride in the fight against cancer.
As for everyone and every organization, this year has been a challenging one for the T4K - but we're hopeful this year's student leaders will be able do an actual outdoor ride this summer to spread hope, knowledge and charity in the fight against cancer - even if it's not all the way to Alaska.
The fact that Austin just authorized the half marathon in April is a good sign in that direction, so I just signed up. It will be the day after the team does their century ride (100-mile) test so feels like a great mileston.
I'll be running for:
My friends & family currently fighting cancer:
my uncle Jon
Jenny Booth's mom
In memory of:
my Dad, several of my grandparents, and my pup Maisie
Shawn's grandfather, Aunt Linda, Uncle Lynn & his wife Judy
Lisa Davis' dad
Henry Dreschler’s wife
Jamie Franklin's mom
Amanda Huyck's dad
Mike Seely's dad
Shannon Somerville's mom
Lynn Vojvodich’s sister
And those who have fought it:
Mary Leonard Kellogg
Kim Blake Leonard
Two close friends who have been more quiet about their diagnosis (KH in Seattle, SM in Austin)
With special thanks to Eric Mowery for joining the board with me this year (and running this race with me in 2017)
Let me know who else I should run for!
Please join me by donating today - or signing up to run & fundraise with us.
