THANK YOU! The response so far is blowing me away heart and mind. I'm leaving this up through August 14th. Please share ! Thank you!!
Help me hit my push GOAL of $3,000!
I have not cut my hair in over 10 years but to raise money to fight cancer I will get it buzzed off if I can raise $1,000 to buzz it! And, yes, I will video the buzz. BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE! People voted whether to buzz it or keep and the buzz it folks won. I'll post the video of the buzz soon.
In 2005, my longest friend, Anne Henderson, helped me write my fundraising letter for the Breast Cancer 3DAY. She died of metastatic breast cancer a few months later. I walked the 3DAY for 7 years.
As with most of us, I have lost too many people to cancer and these last couple of years have been hard with the loss of some very special people and the inabilty to gather together to mourn, comfort each other and share in celebrating their lives. I'd love to tell you more about each of them, share the stories...I could talk and talk. The tender, heartfelt moments, the lifting each other up, the frustrations, the utterly hysterical laughter, the stories we told again and again. I may not be able to do that here but it is important to me that I tell you their names. They were dear friends- beloved, bright lights in my life. We lost Bridgett Perry in December of 2019 to ovarian cancer. Layney Anderson died in of multiple myeloma January, 2020. Anne's daughter, Katie Henderson Bohrer, died of metistatic breast cancer in June of 2020. We will finally have her memorial/celebration of life on August 14th so I am leaving this open to donations till then.
I am doing this fundraiser now because my dear friend, Chaya Spector, just entered hospice. She has pancreatic cancer and was Bridgett's wife. I can hardly breathe thinking about losing her.
And then my beautiful friend, Rebecca Bonesteel (whose super power is love and empathy) had to start chemo to survive her breast cancer so she buzz cut her hair (she looks beautiful - kind of like PINK.) She told me she would have done it as a fundraiser but it was just too much and she had to just get it done.
SO. With the help of Rebecca's husband Mark and his clippers. I am going to do this Buzz Cut fundraiser to honor all the love they have given me and, hopefully, raise some money to fight cancer. (Unless the KEEP IT folks win.)
Please donate whatever you can. It may not seem like much but every dollar gets us closer to better, more effective treatments and that means ending cancer and saving lives.
I will video the Buzz! (unless the Keep It donations win)
P.S. While I am writing this I am listening to Beth Neilsen Chapman sing Deeper Still so I will leave you with this quote from the song.
"You will always have what you gave to love."
Here is a quote from Bridgett:
"Funny thing about living while dying...one minute I’m on a collision course with mortality. The next, I’m savoring just one more ride on my John Deere."
And two quotes from Layney:
"Everything always works out, and people love you."
"Always, always, always, always get air conditioning in your car."
