Positive Results (+Results) is a college program for LGBTQ youth that builds active habits while promoting healthy lifestyles. Partnered with the LGBT Center of Greater Cleveland, C-Town Fitness, Recovery Resources, and the Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health Services (ADAMHS) Board of Cuyahoga County, students engage in a 6-week fitness challenge and attend workshops on HIV/AIDS prevention, Substance Abuse, and Suicide Prevention. Like other minority groups, people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, and/or transgender (LGBT) may experience prejudice and discrimination. Research indicates that mental health problems, misuse of alcohol and other drugs, and suicidal thoughts and behaviors are more common in this group than in the general population. Therefore, our reason for this year’s race is to raise $3,000 for this mazing program and to build awareness through “Positive Results—Breathe OUT,” a documentary student film about suicide prevention. Since 2018, this program has created two award-winning documentary films, which won “official selection” in international film festivals throughout Northeast Ohio.
