Growing up just outside of Boston, running the marathon has always been a dream! As I've gradually grown into distance running over the past 5 years, that dream is finally becoming a reality. After running several half marathons, I completed my first full marathon in Chicago this October! It's safe to say that I fell in love with the distance (and the hundreds of training miles it entails).
Now, I am thrilled to say that I will be running Boston in 2020 with the Tenacity Marathon Team! While running Boston is a dream come true, I am equally excited to give all of those miles meaning by raising money for Tenacity. Tenacity is a nonprofit organization that works to help students in underserved communities thrive academically. Through an enrichment program, they provide academic, social-emotional, and health supports for students. These supports boost high school completion, college enrollment, and college graduation rates. As a future school counselor whose goal is to work with in high needs schools, I am a big supporter of Tenacity's mission. In my professional experience, I have worked alongside Tenacity and know firsthand what a great organization it is. I see how much they benefit the lives of students I work with everyday.
More About Tenacity:
Founded in 1999, Tenacity’s mission is to enable post-secondary success by improving the scholastic, character and physical development of less advantaged urban youth.
Through a combination of academic enrichment, mentoring, family engagement, and tennis/fitness coaching, Tenacity’s Pathway to Post-Secondary Success improves educational outcomes for students, increases graduation rates, and helps transform the lives of the youth we serve.
Tenacity’s Pathway programs enable young people to build self-confidence and explore success as students, mentors and leaders. We open educational and career pathways that offer countless opportunities for personal, civic and professional growth.
The outcomes are striking. Tenacity has maintained a 95% high school graduation rate among students who have completed our Middle School Academy, with 80% of these graduates going on to higher education. Currently, over 5,000 youth participate in Tenacity’s in-school, after school, and summer programs annually.
Funds raised through the B.A.A. Boston Marathon Official Charity Program directly support the free programs Tenacity, Inc. offers City of Boston youth.
