Help build Detroit's Future, by helping Teen HYPE develop our young leaders!
And this #GivingTuesday: Comcast has already signed on as a special supporter!
For 14 years, Teen HYPE has been getting young Detroiters ready for the world through our mission to: Celebrate Youth, Confront Barriers, and Build Bridges.
Since 2004, Teen HYPE has reached nearly 40,000 youth in metropolitan Detroit through a combination of initiatives:
School-Based Health Education (Positive Youth Development / Risk Reduction Curricula)
Peer Education / Leadership Development (including social justice, life skills, college and career preparation, conflict resolution and community service components). Peer Educators create our annual theatrical production focused on teen health or social justice issues. 600 young people have been trained in this life-changing way since 2004.
Both programs are intended to prevent teen pregnancy, STI and HIV infection, and substance misuse -- and assist young people in developing leadership and communication skills, along with a focus on meaningful futures.
Our Peer Education program is staffed with top-notch professional staff from education, public health and performing arts backgrounds and costs $200,000 to run. We receive partial support from ticket sales and from grants, but still fall $120,000 short.
We invite you to support this life-changing program by supporting Teen HYPE's Peer Education. You will be helping to ensure that the critical expenses of guiding Detroit youth to confronting barriers and building bridges continues.
Peer Education Partner: $1,000 – the cost to send one youth through summer-time progamming: week-long YouthQuake community service and leadership development), Youth Summit and three- day annual retreat, connecting them to city leaders and life changing experiences.
Peer Education Friend: $300 – the cost to support one youth through our annual play season.
Peer Education Supporter - $75 -- the cost to support one youth on Cedar Point and other field trips.
Or, we invite your contribution at whatever level you can afford!
As we begin to ramp up for the 2019 theatrical production,"Hidden In The Shadows", we ask for your vital and timely support. There’s a generation of young Detroiters on the cusp of adulthood and what we do now can make or break their – and the city’s – future.
