We're so excited to be in the Quicken Loans Community Challenge Detroit! We could receive up to $25,000 from Quicken Loans through Crowdrise, but we need your support.
For over 15 years, Teen HYPE has worked with Detroit’s young people to get them “Ready for the World”. We provide vulnerable youth with the individualized and holistic support they need to develop abilities, skillsets and mindsets to ensure they can navigate life. Our in-school adolescent health approaches and after-school Peer Education program are infused with concepts from positive youth development and readiness research that outlines ten universal abilities every person needs to succeed in life. We emphasize coping, communication, problem solving, and self-regulation skillsets along with future orientation, persistence, and purposefulness mindsets to express readiness abilities.
"The effects of poverty on a child's academic performance are as varied as they are well-documented: emotional trauma, household instability, and lack of access to health care are just a few of the pressures that interfere with learning. The comforts and supports more affluent families take for granted—stimulating books and toys, exposure to the arts, enriching summer experiences, and quality time with rested parents who aren't working multiple jobs—reinforce a child's sense of safety, self-confidence, and resilience. That social and emotional well-being, in turn, enables strong scholastic achievement." — Jonathan Raymond, Wildflowers, A School Superintendent's Challenge to America
We know that by offering support to our youth, such as access to music, dance, stimulating in-school and summer program, health resources, family support, and mentorship, we will help nurture the sense of safety and self-confidence that young people need to be ready for the world and succeed as adults.
