Nolan was diagnosed with Juvenile Dermatomyositis on July 2, 2018, at only 2 years of age. His story began when rashes started to form on his knees and elbows, then onto his fingers, toes, ears, and face. He then began to grab his knees and toes and tell us he had a "boo boo", since he couldn't tell us anything else. He then began to limp and be very stiff when sitting for long periods of time, also asking to be carried down the steps, as he had just learned to walk up and down them. We then had our pediatrician complete blood work and his numbers came back increased for his age and the inflammation in his body. We were sent to a rheumatologist from there, who also wanted us to see a dermatologist, after receiving his blood work results. We met with both the dermatologist and rheumatologist on July 2, when they officially diagnosed him with JDM. Nolan had an MRI completed to check the amount of inflammation in his legs on July 5 and began treatment after that. He has since had more trouble with his skin, developing ulcers on both ears. He has since started another treatment medication for those as well. He is up to three that he takes, along with two different creams that are used for his skin too.
