I’m participating in an FCA approved charity run (26.2 miles) on October 21st to United Way's "Bib to Backpack" campaign to support early childhood development.
Why Early Childhood Development?
- 90% of a child’s brain is developed by age 3, so United Way supports learningbefore a child enters a traditional classroom.
- These efforts save money for the community as a whole; $1 spent on early childhood development can reduce future remediation costs by $13-$17.
What is United Way Doing to Help?
- The Bib to Backpack campaign focuses on ensuring children are prepared for kindergarten.
- Each year in Southeastern Michigan, Early Learning Centers serves ~12,000 parents and caregivers. Nearly 70% of children at high risk for delayed development improved their test scores with help from United Way’s programs and partners.
