Right now, New Jersey is one of just eight states in the country without a safe-passing law. This needs to change.
New Jersey Bike & Walk Coalition (NJBWC) is currently fighting to make the 4-Foot Passing Bill a law in New Jersey. In order to create greater awareness and raise more funds for this latest NJBWC initiative, we created Team4NJ.
Because this law is so important to those of us who ride bikes in particular, Team4NJ is reaching out to the New Jersey’s bike riders. We all have stories of cars passing narrowly close to us. Apart from the sheer danger, just the idea of this discourages others from ever getting on a bike in the first place. It even deters people from walking or running along our roads too.
By joining Team4NJ and wearing the Team4NJ kit at bike events, like the 2019 Gran Fondo NJ, with every mile you make it more likely this bill will become law. And ultimately, when you’re on our team, you’ll be making our roads safer.
When the 4-Foot Safe Passing Bill is law, it’ll be taught in driver’s ed classes. Drivers will be required to understand their responsibility to others who are equally entitled to use New Jersey’s roads. And police can enforce the law and ticket errant drivers.
