“Don’t Give Up . . . Don’t Ever Give Up!”®
These words are so powerful. I remember listening to Jimmy V when I was a teenager and hearing his impactful speech during a rerun of the ESPY awards. Every year during Jimmy V week on ESPN, I am moved by his courageous fight against cancer and inspired by his words of advice. Growing up an athlete, being a collegiate student-athlete, and now working in college athletics, I have the fight, drive, and determination to achieve success. I have the goal of raising $6,000 for The V Foundation and to run the Boston Marathon for all the past and present fighters of cancer. Every day I live by the slogan "Don't Give Up... Don't Ever Give Up!" Giving up is not an option for me and I hope you can assist me in achieving this goal.
The reason I chose to run for Team V was to honor all my family members and friends who are currently fighting cancer and who have lost the battle to cancer. My Nanny and Grandpa both died from cancer and I have several friends who are currently fighting this horrific disease. Most recently, my Uncle Ed died from pancreatic cancer in February 2017. Ed was an avid North Carolina Tar Heel basketball fan and volunteered as an usher at the Dean Smith Center for several years. He loved college basketball and we always bonded over the Duke/ UNC/ NC State rivalry. Even though he loved his Carolina Blue, he admired The V Foundation for their work for cancer research.
Cancer sucks! Let’s come together to strengthen cancer research so we can put a stop to this deadly disease. Please consider donating to The V Foundation and supporting me in running 26.2 in honor of all the fighters who "Don't Give Up!"
The V Foundation was founded by ESPN and award-winning NC State basketball coach Jim Valvano. Coach Valvano was diagnosed with cancer in 1993. When he created the Foundation, Jim knew that it was too late for research to save him, but he spent his last months alive creating a legacy of hope for others diagnosed with this debilitating disease.
In the past 25 years, The V Foundation has awarded more than $225 million to cancer research and related programs nationwide.
Jim Valvano’s “Don’t Give Up . . . Don’t Ever Give Up!”® spirit is alive now more than ever, and it is the perfect motto to carry us through the iconic 26.2 mile journey from Hopkinton to Boston. With continued support, we will forge ahead with innovative research. Support us through a donation – you are making a difference and saving lives. There is not a moment to lose in the fight against cancer.
