In memory of an absolutely amazing woman, run with the T party!
Last summer, Theresa King was diagnosed with a blood cancer called Multiple Myeloma that eats away at your bones and causes lesions on them. By the time they found it, it had spread all over her pelvis down to her femurs and up in a few spots on her spine. Her cancer was very treatable, and doctors were confident in her making a full recovery through different treatments.
Theresa had a double hip replacement and supportive rods put in both of her femurs as well as a kyphoplasty, and went into rehab. Unfortunately, the cancer spread to her pelvis and hips during this time, and doctors were afraid the hip surgery on one side would become ineffective if the bone that they screwed the new hip into deteriorated any further, and decided to give her more radiation and chemo. In her recovery from this, she got pneumonia, which inhibited her from recieving more chemo.
Without being able to treat the cancer and her immune system being too compromised to fight the pneumonia, she just wasn’t strong enough to survive. Please join our team or donate to the FDNY Foundation, as the FDNY Family Transport Services were extremely helpful in transporting Theresa to all of herdoctor appointments. It would mean the world to our family to donate to FDNY members that helped Theresa and her family through this time.
