Did you know that October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month? Sojourner House is one of the Citizens Bank Pell Bridge Run beneficiaries this year. Joining or donating to our team are two great ways you can support victims during Domestic Violence Awareness Month!
Founded in 1976, the mission of Sojourner House is to promote healthy relationships by providing culturally sensitive support, advocacy, and education for victims and survivors of domestic and sexual violence; and to effect systems change. We provide shelter, housing, and empowering supportive services to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking in Rhode Island, and we operate the state's only shelter for victims of trafficking.
Sojourner House has grown tremendouly over the past few years, serving 1,020 victims of abuse and providing 7,152 shelter bed nights and 43,968 supportive housing bed nights last fiscal year alone. Your support is critical now more than ever. Please join our team and run with us to support victims of abuse, or please consider donating to our page. The National Network to End Domestic Violence reports that domestic violence is the leading cause of homelessness for women and their children. Our goal of $5,000 will help to cover the costs of almost six months of rent for a victim and their children.
Thank you for your help and for your support! Together we can eliminate abuse in our community!
