Helloooooo! So, you probably know that Ryan loves racing with Team Hoyt VB - these amazing volunteer runners/pushers give him such a sense of FREEDOM and JOY. He is competitive and loves to win 🤷♀️🤣 (he loves to see other people win, too lol 🥇) but most importantly, he gets a break from his everyday life- confined to a wheelchair and dependent on everyone for EVERY. SINGLE. THING. He loves every bit of it, the running (as well as swimming and biking for the tri’s) 🏃♀️🚴🏼♂️🏊🏾♂️, the wind in his face (I would say hair but since he has really short hair...😜), the crowds cheering (he’s a ham, what can I say?) and the team spirit that Team Hoyt exudes and the difference they make in his life!
This summer, Ryan has not been able to attend any of the races due to some health issues and we didn’t think he would be in this one either, which is one of his favorites, but we were encouraged to enter (even at the risk of having to cancel). Even though Ryan has been having ups and downs, when I asked him about it his face lit up with the biggest smile and he said he wants to be in it! Soooo, it’s all very last minute and this is Team Hoyt’s only fundraiser so I am kindly asking for any and all donations to this amazing group of men, women and older kids that bring an incredible amount of joy to kids and adults with various disabilities. 🙏❤️🙏
Here’s some info about Team Hoyt VB:
Modeled after the inspirational hereos Rick and Dick Hoyt, Team Hoyt VB was founded in 2008 and provides the local special needs community the opportunity to participate in over 22 races per year, including a destination race in Holland, Massachusetts with Dick and Rick in May each year. As a 501c3 non profit, Team Hoyt VB uses 100% of the funds received to provide services to the children and young adults as we are 100% volunteer. The money raised helps maintain the existing fleet of racing chairs, some of which cost over $2,000; and has helped purchase and maintain two trailers used to store and transport those chairs. We have also started a triathlon team and are purchasing chairs that can be towed by bicycles for the bike portion; these chairs cost nearly $5,000.
