In 2019, I set my sights on running my first marathon. It was such an extraordinary experience that I knew I needed to run it again. This time I am running it with a different purpose. I will be running to support the fight against domestic violence.
When first considering joining team Run DV, I was initially inspired by my own experiences. It quickly hit me that I am just another number in a horrifying statistic. I am simply one of every four women that fall victim to domestic violence. There are millions of survivors of all ages, races, genders, religions, sexualities, and incomes that I want to help in my efforts.
My largest motivation falls in education and awareness. In my experience, I was not fully aware of what a healthy relationship truly consisted of. My story may have been drastically different with proper knowledge and education on relationships, my body, and consent. With organizations like Run DV, I foresee a future in which everyone knows what healthy relationships consist of, as well as the warning signs of unhealthy ones.
Run DV is a coalition of domestic violence service providers from across the city of Chicago who have come together to advance their cause in ending domestic violence. Your donations will go toward supportive and preventive services for survivors and their loved ones such as hotlines, support groups, and safe shelters in the hopes of breaking the deadly cycle of domestic violence.
Everyone deserves healthy, loving relationships.
Together we will Run Domestic out of Town!
