Trauma, from chid abuse and neglect can have a significant impact on the developing brain -resulting in long-term health, learning and behavioral challenges. Reach Within, the principal program of the Bartholomew J. Lawson Foundation for Children, works to change these outcomes by helping children and teens to develop healthy coping techniques, re-pattern neural pathways and form healthy relationships with caring adults in their lives. We do this through low-cost high impact programs that include rhythmic modalities for self-regulation and cognitive re-framing techniques. We also train caregivers and community members in how to better understand trauma and behavior. Together we serve 500+ children/teens and 1500+ caregivers and community professionals who receive training in trauma informed care.
During this Covid-19 crisis we have mobilized to provide the same level of support to children and teens who do not have the safety-net of a family to help them through this challenging time. We are providing online therapeutic classes to all children and teens living in residential care homes across Grenada, West Indies as well as support sessions for the professional caregivers working in the homes. We are also offering our stress-reduction program techniques to the broader community on daily Facebook Live events. Please feel free to join us @reachwithin-1.
At this time, the TCS NYC Marathon is still scheduled for November 1, 2020. Although the world is rapidly changing, we do hope this event will be a time of renewal for the global community. We honor the runners on our team who have bravely stepped up to a great challenge during this time. We ask for you to support them and the ongoing work of Reach Within as we support vulnerable children and teens through this critical time in history. Even the smallest donation from thousands of people can create a huge ripple of love, connection and healing. We thank you so much for your generosity and compassion.
