Reach Out and Read Minnesota is an early literacy nonprofit that seeks to give all children in Minnesota a foundation for successs for the rest of their lives. We're thrilled to be an official Charity Partner of the Medtronic Twin Cities Virtual Marathon in 2020. All of the funds raised by our amazing team of runners will go to bringing the brain-building power of books to children across the state of Minnesota.
While the COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted nearly everyone's plans for 2020, including Twin Cities Marathon, we know that one thing remains true: Minnesota kids need to keep on learning! With huge gaps in educational programming and events and with the additional factor of increased stress in the home, it's more vital now than ever that young children have access to the brain-building, and stress-reducing power of books.
That's why we're asking our community to help support our state's young learners and our communities' healthcare workers at the TCM Virtual Marathon and 10 Mile.
Reading to children is hugely important. Evidence shows that reading alout to children is essential to their brain development, their social emotional well-being, and their future success in school and beyond. That's why our program collaborates with doctors and nurses across the state to give young children and their families the books and guidance they need to help build their brains and set them up for a lifetime of success.
At our more than 280 partner clinics across the state, doctors and nurses provide children with developmentally and culturally appropriate books to young children and their families and coach the families on how to use those books to aid in their children's development.
And we know our program works! Families in our program are 2.5 times as likely to read to to their together, and children in our program improve their language ability by 3-6 months.
With your support, more young children and their families can get the resources and support they need to build better brains and prepare for a lifetime of success!
We currently have spots open for the marathon and 10 mile race for runners who want to support our program.
We want to make our virtual event as accessible as possible for anyone who wants to support early literacy in Minnesota. That's why this year, we are not requiring funraising minimums.
Runners who raise $250 or more will recieve our team running shirt. Runners who raise $400 or more will be reiumbursed for registration costs.
