Cailin Cowley's Marathon Fundraising Page
Thank you for visiting my marathon fundraising page! I'm honored to be running for Team MR8 in the New York City Marathon this November.
On April 15, 2013, two bombs exploded near the Boston Marathon Finish Line. Martin Richard was one of three people killed while the Richard Family and hundreds of others were injured.
One would expect this devastation to break a community's spirit, but it ended up doing the opposite - Boston proved its strength and emulated a pride in their community that I had never seen before. Having moved to the city a few months after the tragedy, I wasn't sure what I would find, but I have been consistently astounded and impressed by the love that has cultivated in response to the act of hate.
When a photo of Martin holding a handmade sign that read 'No More Hurting People, Peace' was shared over the Internet, his message created a feeling of unity, kindness and peace. These values have become the pillars of the Martin Richard Foundation which was founded in January 2014.

The Martin Richard Foundation helps young people to learn, grow and lead through volunteerism and community engagement. The values of kindness, unity and service to others have become the pillars of this organization that is focused on building a more compassionate community through a new generation of leaders. Team MR8 is the fundraising program and main source of income for the Martin Richard Foundation. When runners join Team MR8, they commit support to an organization that is anchored in promoting sportsmanship, inclusion, kindness, and peace through programs that reflect civic engagement and youth development.
