On January 26th, my friends and I will be participating in the B-Fit Challenge at the TD Garden. The event is organized by the Bruins Foundation to raise money for the families of first repsonders.
So why do this?? It's basically about family.
When my Mom had broken her hip, the local EMT's arrived to transport her to the hospital. And they treated her with such respect and compassion, as though she were one of their own. She wouldn't leave the hospital but I know that the crew that brought her there treated her as family.
True, those EMT's weren't risking their lives responding to a fall in a residence but it's my hope that we can treat them as family too. And that it extends to those that depend on them. Their familes.
So, then, why MJO??
Well, MJO are my grandfather's initials and he served for over 40 years in the Boston Fire Department. He was onsite for events such as the Great Molasses Flood and the Cocoanut Grove Fire.
My sisters and I were extremely fortunate to have had him in our lives for many years. But there are many families of first responders who are not so lucky.
So we've decided to support the Bruins Foundation and several charities dedicated to providing aid to the families of first responders.
It's the least that we can do for... family. And we hope that you can help in this effort.
