My pregnancy was overall smooth and pleasant. On the morning of December 18, 2018, I was driving to work; it was a completely normal day for me. I was 27 weeks pregnant and felt the baby moving. Everything was fine. Right as I pulled into the parking lot, a wave of anxiety hit me; I had never felt anything like it. It would not go away. I felt like something was wrong, but had no explanation. I drove to the ER. I was later told that Matteo’s cord was twisted and wrapped around his shoulders. After a very traumatic C-section, I waited 8 hours to see him. We waited almost 2 weeks before holding him. It was very shocking for both my husband and me.
Being in the NICU is very hard. Luckily, our NICU experience was so positive. We were treated with so much love, understanding, and empathy. Matteo stayed in the hospital for 88 days before being released. It was a long road, but we are so lucky. Because of the research done at March of Dimes, Matteo happy, thriving, and about to turn one! Please join us as we work to help March of Dimes fight for the health of all moms and babies!
