RHIA BROTHAG, TEAM MARYN
This August 3rd-4th I will be attempting to run one mile every hour for 24 consecutive hours in the Anytime Fitness 24 in 24 Challenge.
This is my first year doing the 24in24 and I will not lie, I am nervous maybe even scared. But when I think about what these Wish Kids have endured I tell myself if me running 24 miles in 24 hours can make a difference, than I can do this. It is one day and maybe a couple days to recoup, but for these kids it's a lifetime. As a mother of a beautiful daughter and a grandmother of two wonderful grandsons, I cannot fathom the fear these families face every day and the strength they have to fight. This is my "why". They make we want to be a better person.
Maryn was born in March of 2013, looking surprisingly healthy for having been diagnosed in utero with rare congenital heart defects (Truncus Arteriosus, a VSD & an ASD). In the beginning of August 2013, Maryn was evaluated for a heart transplant, although it was determined she was not a candidate due to her 22q11.2 Deletion Syndrome and her over 40 blood transfusions. On her 6-month birthday, her amazing medical team was able to successfully replace both valves and Maryn came home for the first time 218 days after she was born. Maryn is now 6 years old, she has overcome many obstacles and is currently thriving! She enjoys swimming, music, dancing, soccer, her iPad and most of all her brother.
Will you support my efforts and help me grant Maryn’s Big Wish?
