2018 will be the 5th year Team Madison Fights the Madness travels to Durham, NC for the Florence Forth Road Race. Florence Forth is about so much more than a 5K race. Our team keeps coming back year after year because of the amazing second family we have formed in fellow survivors and their families, as well as the families of those who tragically lost their lives due to Autoimmune Encephalitis. We run for the camaraderie with these families, and we run for those who are still desperately seeking diagnoses.
Madison was diagnosed with Anti-NMDA Receptor Autoimmune Encephalitis in November 2012. She was a happy, healthy, 6-year-old who loved being a Kindergartner, soccer, swimming, and reading. In a matter of weeks our lives drastically changed. We found ourselves at Children's Hospital desperately searching for answers as to what had caused a bizarre change in behaviors, seizure activity, loss of cognition, change in speech, and many other symptoms in Madison. We were fortunate to get a relatively quick diagnosis and treatment for Madison. Today she is 11 years old, excelling in 5th grade, soccer, and flag football, and living a perfectly healthy and normal life.
All tax deductible donations go to the Autoimmune Encephalitis Alliance, who is helping to create clinical standards of care for AE patients, coordinating clinical research efforts, and building community awareness connecting families.
