Lila is 11 years old and has been hospitalized a dozen times since last year with seizure clusters. Her seizures have happened in a swimming pool, in a locked bathroom, at Trader Joes, at gymnastics, at the playground, and most recently while celebrating the 4th of July. She takes three medications daily, but still worries that any day might end up in the hospital.
Recently Lila told me that if she could have one wish, it would be to not have epilepsy. I told her that my one wish would be the same.
While Lila‘s wish and mine may never fully come true, I am raising funds for the PCDH19 Alliance by ”running” the Dionysus Dash in Napa on August 10 in hopes of a better future for her and thousands of other girls living with epilepsy.
On top of creating a strong support network for families like ours, the PCDH19 Alliance is funding research to help find a cure and better treatment for this genetic condition which affects girls like Lila. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation to our fundraiser, and/or joining me for the dash (yes wine will be provided!)
