This event is a perfect combination of several things that are near and dear to my heart. I love the ocean and long distance swimming, and I love working with Veterans, having done so at the Gainesville VA for 12 years now. Some of the Veterans I've had as patients have been Special Forces members. Now, my oldest son is in the Navy and working his way through the training evolutions to become an EOD Diver. My Father and three of his brothers were in WWII, with my Uncle Thomas Lancer fighting in Italy in with the First Special Service Force. When I deployed with the 1/111 Aviation Batallion to the Middle East,, my family became a deployment family. I saw the impact my 9-month deployment had upon them- and I came back. It is heartbreaking to think of families losing their loved ones- not having the chance to say goodbye, trying to figure out how to go on from here.
The Navy Seal Foundation is absolutely committed to supporting the surviving familes, spouses, and children "until they no longer need our support." That is simply the right thing to do-step into the gap for those who have said "send me."
I have appreciated the many "thank you for your service" I have received . Respectfully, please consider turning those sentiments into action for a remarkable and worthy cause.
